Things that make you blush #PiroposTraducidos

We have all had that one guy or girl when they would say those “piropos” that would make you swoon.  If you don’t know what “piropos” is, it’s compliment or a pick up line that’s silly or sweet. Like “Are you religious? ‘Cause you’re the answer to all my prayers”  pickup lines that make your eyes roll or make your stomach full of butterflies. I have had my fair share of “piropos” and they always make blush and make me crack up because they get sillier and sillier every time.

Green Works: You Don’t Have to Be Ridiculous to be Green #YouDontHavetoBe

Clorox Green Works Logo

Do you feel the pressure to be green? A recent survey of 600 women revealed that in this day and age of green-this and eco-that, there is even more pressure to be environmentally conscious than ever before.  Did you know that: 544,000: Trees would be saved if every household in the United States replaced just one roll of virgin fiber paper towels (70 sheets) with 100 percent recycled ones.  Make sure you know what you can and can’t recycle  when I was learning how to recycle I made Boo boo’s left and right and recycled things that shouldn’t have been. So I definitely suggest you check out the rules for your area and make sure you don’t send anything in that can’t be processed. Each city has its own specifics, so try to follow those guidelines as best you can.

It’s not to hard being Eco-friendly, here are some steps to put you in the right direction

  • Recycle, Recycle, Recycle, you will be surprised how rewarding it is to recycle. Not only are you saving the earth! But Where I live every time you recycle you actually earn points for it!
  • Use Reusable bags when you shop.
  • Try to purchase locally grown foods, the benefits of purchasing locally grown foods is local food is more nutritious! Once harvested, produce quickly loses nutrients. Since local produce is cold right after it’s picked it retains more nutrients.
  • Clean your home with Eco Friendly Cleaners like Clorox Green Works products, they are inexpensive and good for the environment.
  • There are so many things you can do to be more Eco friendly!

greenworks

In a recent survey from the Clorox company, ninety-three percent of women agree that being environmentally friendly should be accessible to everyone. Most women say affordability makes green product purchases more accessible (63%) than any other factor. That’s a big percentage! I know eating or buying organic is not budget friendly but they do have Food Co-ops in your city that provide discount prices for so much fresh fruit and vegi’s. Even buying cleaning products can be a  bit expensive that’s why i always make my own cleaning products ( I will post a quick homemade cleaning products below) or buy Clorox Green works cleaning supplies! Which are budget friendly and safe for the environment.

How to make your own All-purpose disinfectant: Mix 2 cups water, a few drops of natural soap, and 15 drops each of tea tree and lavender organic essential oil. You can spray this on all kinds of home surfaces. Just don’t use this on glass, as it will streak. This basic cleaner is so safe and gentle you could literally spray it on your kids, and they’d be fine. I do suggest baths over disinfecting the kiddos though Link to more homemade cleaning supplies. http://www.inhabitots.com/how-to-make-kid-safe-homemade-green-cleaning-supplies/

Bringing comfort to those you love…. (Giveaway) #KleenexSWS

Kleenex_SWS-lockup (1).JPG

When I was smaller I remember always having allergies and then those allergies turning into a cold. My mom would bring me her Yummy homemade chicken soup, medicine and would lay all of my stuffed animals at the foot of my bed to make me feel better. I always loved when my mom would bring me Kleenex tissues because I have severe allergies to the fibers in some of the off brand tissues so having a nice soft tissue would make me feel so much better.  My mom has this amazing recipe that she got from my Grandma, it’s Dominican Sancocho. Sancocho is one of those dishes that takes time and patience to make, but the result is worth the labor and the comfort it brings especially when you don’t feel good is so soothing.  One thing about hot soup it makes your nose a bit runny so I always relied on Kleenex tissues for that job.

#DoveInspired Vive Mejor’s Hablemos (Let’s Talk) Campaign

In our society where real beauty is usually photoshopped, or what society tells us is beautiful is distorted  it’s important we talk to young girls. And let them know they are beautiful as they are.  They are bombarded with images of “ideal beauty”, from unrealistically airbrushed photo spreads and glossy magazine covers. For young women, low self-esteem can lead to poor choices that can sabotage success and interfere with their health.

According to Dove Global research:

*  72% of girls ages (10-17) feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful.(1)

*  Only 11% of girls ages (10-17) are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves.(2)

*  When girls feel badly about their looks more than 60% globally (age 15-17) avoid normal daily activities including attending school, going to the doctor, or even giving their opinion.(3)

Dove believes beauty should be a source of confidence, not anxiety. Girls are listening – women just need to start the conversation. A simple act, such as starting a conversation about beauty, can make a world of difference. Dove is committed to inspiring all women and girls to reach their full potential. The Dove Movement for Self-Esteem opens up a world of opportunities for women to make a difference.

Ways you can be a positive influence in a young girls/woman’s life.

  • Be a positive role model. Don’t talk negatively about your own body. Try not to be overly focused on your appearance.
  • Don’t praise girls solely for their appearance. Praise should be focused on effort and accomplishments.Watch how you talk about other people: Are you judgmental of people’s appearances?
  • Make sure you’re sending a message to your children/niece’s etc  that it’s what’s inside—especially how we treat others—that defines a person and makes us who we are.
  • Watch your own stereotypes; let daughters help fix the kitchen sink and let sons help make dinner.
  • Help girls avoid becoming obsessed with how they look. Counteract advertisers who take advantage of preteen and teenage girls by making them feel they need certain products to feel “cool.”

Vive Mejor Hablemos “Let’s Talk” is an initiative that Dove started to encourage young girls to be confident about being beautiful. 72% of young girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful according to Dove Global Research. What if you could take their opinion of what being beautiful is and replace it with something more meaningful? Would you do it?

Sleep Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month #EstrovenPink

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, my Mom and I had a Sleep Pinkparty.  The Sleep pink party is to raise funds for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to support finding a cure. Finding a cure for Breast Cancer is near and dear to us because one of my Mom’s friends is a 12 year breast cancer survivor, she told us what she went through and how hard it was. She told us the one thing she regretted about getting sick was not telling anyone she had breast cancer she wished she had a support system when she was sick. She said that you need good friends and family with you, a good support system if you are going through something like this.

My brother also has been affected by Breast Cancer, his Best friends Mother succumbed to the disease and passed away, she was a beautiful person inside and out and i am so blessed to have known her. This is why breast cancer awareness is so important to me.  Did you know that every three minutes someone is diagnosed with breast cancer in this country? About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 57,650 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer. This why it’s very important to do a Self- examination monthly,  this is a step by step guide. http://women.webmd.com/breast-self-examination or make an appointment for a Mammogram.

It was an all pink themed party, we made cupcakes and frosted them with pink frosting. Also we decided to give each other a make over! Which was so much fun, my mom was making me laugh so much i almost ended up with pink lipstick all over my face.  We also made some yummy pink lemonade.

My Dog Snoopy was a bit jealous we were having so much fun, so he decided to join in on the festivities.

During the month of October, Estroven is providing women with the necessary tools to host a Sleep Pink-themed party on SleepPink.com. The site will allow party hosts to upload photographs of their events, and for every photo, the company will pledge $100 to benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It will also provide information to help organize the Sleep Pink parties including downloadable invitations, menopause-friendly
drink and food recipe suggestions, as well as décor and entertainment ideas.
